Megabytes Per Second (MBps)

What Does Megabytes Per Second (MBps)Mean?

Megabytes per second (MBps) is a measure usedto describe data transfer rates between devices. One megabyte is technicallyequal to 1,048,576 bytes, but in networking it refers to 1 million bytes. MBpsshould not be confused with the abbrevation Mbps, which refers to megabits persecond.

MBps may also be written as MB/s.

While the data rates of computer network connections are usually measuredin bits per second, non-network equipment data rates are sometimes shown inbytes per second measures, such as kilobytes per second (KBps), MBps orgigabytes per second (GBps).
